The cat was a furred animal native to Earth. Their fur could be ginger, grey, or black and white in color. Cats could be kept on starships or space stations, and were fed using cat treats. A Xenomorph facehugger was able to utilize a cat as a suitable host.

History

A ginger cat named Jones was kept aboard the commercial starship USCSS Nostromo as of 2122, and was one of two survivors of a Xenomorph outbreak aboard the ship in that year alongside warrant officer Ellen Ripley. Ripley's shuttle the Narcissus was diverted to the Xenomorph–stricken mining orbital DSMO Marion over LV-178 in 2159; during the incident, Jones remained in the shuttle's stasis chamber. After the two were rescued in 2179, Jones stayed on Gateway Station while Ripley accompanied a United States Colonial Marine Corps detachment to LV-426, where the Nostromo had collected the Xenomorph that doomed the vessel. Centuries later in 2381, Ripley's clone Ripley 8 recalled memories of Jones.

As of 2177, a gray cat by the name of Mazarin was among the crew aboard the ailing tug USCSS Fidanza.

A tuxedo cat named Adrien was aboard the plasma mining station Erebos in 2185, during which the station was attacked by the ancient race dubbed the Fulfremmen and converted into a living Proto-Hive.
